Closing Arguments Underway In Trial Of Brendan Hunt, Accused Of Making Online Threats Against Lawmakers

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Closing arguments were underway Wednesday in the trial of a Queens man accused of threatening to kill members of Congress.

Brendan Hunt was not at the January attack on the U.S. Capitol, but days later, he posted videos calling for the murder of lawmakers.

The prosecutors said they were true threats, but Hunt told jurors it was “online blather.” He attorney said the rants were protected by free speech.

If convicted, Hunt faces up to 10 years in prison.
