Man Fatally Shot After Struggle With Officer, Suffolk County Police Say

MANORVILLE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork)Suffolk County Police say an officer fatally shot a man after a struggle in Manorville Thursday night.

It happened at around 10:45 p.m. on Bauer Avenue near Frontier Trail.

According to police, the officer was responding to a 911 call of “a suspicious person lying on the back seat of a vehicle.”

Police did not release many details, saying only the officer “engaged” the man and “a struggle ensued.” The officer then shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they recovered a knife from the man.

The officer was taken to an area hospital. Suffolk County detectives and investigators with the state attorney general’s office are investigating.

Under state law, fatal police involved shootings are investigated by the attorney general’s office.
