Gov. Cuomo Signs Bill Expanding Voting Access For Convicted Felons

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Anyone convicted of a felony in New York state now has the right to vote as soon as they are released from prison.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday signed a bill into law that expands their voting access.

Now, Department of Correction officials must provide a voter registration form as former prisoners leave facilities.

Previously, they would have to wait four to six weeks to receive a pardon and then register to vote on their own.
